Auricular acupuncture

Auricular (or ear) acupuncture is a specialized complementary therapy. Needles are placed on points located on the outer ear toauricular therapy help relieve many chronic complaints. Auricular therapy is commonly used to overcome addiction (smoking) using the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association protocol. After an auricular treatment with needles, the acupuncturist will often place pellets on the ear, which last several days, so you may press on them and further your treatment.

There are over 200 acupuncture points on the ear, each named after an area of our anatomy. The outer ear acts like a switchboard to the brain. When treated, the acupuncture point triggers electrical impulses from the ear, through the brain, to a specific part of the body. For example, if you have a painful knee, treating the ‘knee’ acupuncture point on the ear will help alleviate the pain.
